Ciao!!!! Well my second day is done. I was scheduled to work until 3 (one shift) but chose to stay until 4:30. I mean if I am here to work then that is what I should be doing. Besides they were very busy and I actually had my hands in a few things. I made Crostini (thin breadsticks), I formed buffalo milk cheese, worked the pantry station (antipasti and cold items), plated a lot of salads, helped plate for a party of 25. The party started with breadsticks and various cheese, then an insalata de mare with olive oil marinated salmon, marinated anchovies, octopus salad, boiled shrimp and clams. Really good. Then two or three pasta courses, and the main dish was grilled shrimp, calamari and fish. I helped plate everything in one way or another (baby steps!) I also helped make the cookie cups for the fruit and gelato! It was a good day.
So the reason for the title? Because during the staff meals everyone is laughing and talking and then at least one person looks my way in almost a sympathy glance, and then something else is said. So I sit there telling myself, I will learn this language and then the jokes will be on them! However, they are all very nice where I work. I will reserve a post to tell you about all of them. They are really great and very helpful!

Just keep smiling, but don’t nod…nodding signifies agreement, but smiling when you don’t know what the heck they’re saying signifies personal class…until you learn the language ❤
