Positano is a very small village, 4,000 people without tourists. Everyone knows everybody. If you stay long enough you are part of the everybody. According to my girlfriends who recently came to visit I am quickly becoming a positanoin.
This morning I realized I haven’t posted in some time. So I knew it was time to share something, though I didn’t know what. As I was waiting for the bus I noticed an older gentleman talking. He seemed to be talking to people and telling them to be careful or providing directions. When one of the buses came he got up blew his whistle and was directing traffic around the bus. This little man, who was shorter than me, however, he just had this presence that said “I know what I am doing”. I attempted to get a picture but was unsuccessful, he just moved too fast. So instead I just sat down and he began talking to me. Asked me where I was going and why. He told me he was the captain at the San Pietro and everyone listens to him. He said “they do as I tell them!” Then he proceeded to blow his whistle, direct traffic AND people. He was very pleasant. Everyone knows him, literally everyone. I am sure he was a force to be reckoned with in his day. He is over 90 years old and still getting around! Amazing!!!!
